Porsche Product Design
Current Event
By: Zachary Horowitz
Have you ever wanted the feeling that you were wearing materials that you sit on when you are driving an automobile? If your answer is yes, check this out. Adidas has teamed up with Porsche the German made car and designed clothes and equipment from materials they use in their car. Items include leather tennis shoes, rubber soles with tire treads, clothes with water repellent, wind proof, and stretch materials that you would normally find on the seats you sit on when you are driving.
Interestingly enough, you wouldn’t expect Adidas (sport equipment store) to design shoes that are made for driving an automobile. These new shoes are made with soles that grip on to the pedals, flexible materials, and materials that are breathable when you are sitting in your Porsche on a summer day and your car is hot, your feet has a place to breathe and cool without sweating. Another interesting fact is these shoes are to be made to reduce leg cramps when driving for long hours.
Another product that Adidas created is their multi-task water bottle that you can take on the road as coffee or water. If you fill it up with water, the water inside stays ice cold forever. If you fill it up with coffee, the coffee inside it will always be hot. Adidas has designed the bottle so that when you grip your hands will never slip due to condensation. If you drop it will never break due to the bottle being made with rubber material.
I chose this Adidas product creation for my current event because it relates to product differentiation. Adidas created the Porsche Design Line for many reasons to distinguish themselves from Nike, Puma, Under Armour, and Lacoste. They created this product line to create products with materials that we use as our transportation. I believe that Adidas will experience high profit if they target this line right and to the right people.

Recently in class we have discussed how businesses conduct their sales based upon how they market their products. There are different segmentations that they must follow to persuade their target market to buy their products and receive the proper advertisements to get the attention of the buyer. Today I will be sharing with you how Smucker’s target their prices.
Smucker’s just recently has been increasing their prices for their coffee stick. Demographically the gender is neutral for coffee drinkers. Their occupation could be high school and of university graduation. The nationality would be for black and whites. Age would be men or women in the ages of 25 – 60.
Psychographic segmentation would be targeting their boost of energy. Their lifestyle is probably calm but preppy. Upbeat, because they value the energy they need to get through their day they have to have the caffeinated drink. Behavioral and usage is frequently, most coffee drinkers have a cup of coffee every morning.
Smucker’s prices have recently increased on their coffee. As a business they are looking for volatile ingredients and their customers are looking for good or fair prices and value in the product. They have lowered the prices on Crisco Oils and peanut butter. In order to gain the loyalty of their customers the product has increased in value and they have lowered the prices of other purchases.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Plans are in the works to open a McDonald's at the site of the now-closed Rally's Hamburgers on Washington Street East near the Capitol Complex in Charleston.
The corporation has bought the property from the former owner and received a zoning permit from the city of Charleston.
McDonald's is also asking for special permission to have a sign taller than what is normally allowed in the neighborhood.
City Planner Libby Ballard said Tuesday that the fast food giant has requested a variance to construct a restaurant sign taller than 15 feet.
"They want something, I believe, that would be more visible from the interstate," she said.
The city Board of Zoning Appeals has not yet held a hearing on the sign matter.
The company also applied for a building permit on Jan. 26, Ballard said, but that has not yet been granted.
She said McDonald's plans to build anew, rather than use the building Rally's occupied before closing late last year.
"There will also have to be a demolition permit for that address and all the things that go along with demolition approval before they could get started," Ballard said.
She was not sure when the company planned to begin demolition or to open the new restaurant. A McDonald's spokesperson did not immediately return phone calls.
City leaders also recently learned that a small portion of the Living AIDS Memorial Garden encroaches on the property now owned by McDonald's.

Council members approved a legal agreement between the city and McDonald's for continued use of that small portion of land.
The garden serves as a place for friends and family of AIDS victims to quietly reflect on their lost loved ones. The project was started in 1998.
The city leases the land for the garden from the state, according to the agreement.
Under the agreement, McDonald's must give 60 days notice if it wishes to use the property.
Also according to the agreement, no maintenance or construction work at the garden is allowed to take place during the lunch rush, and no garden equipment may be stored on McDonald's property.
A nonprofit organization oversees maintenance and upkeep of the garden.
East End Main Street Director Ric Cavender said he is happy to see that McDonald's has invested in the East End.
Cavender said he worked with the company during the planning process.
"They're seeing revitalization take place along that corridor, and they want to be part of that movement," he said. "It's been a really exciting project. I think that the workers at the Capitol will be excited about it, and it's going to a nice-looking establishment."

Sony Ericsson refocuses with new CRM plans
Concentrating on Customer Relation Management
Sony Ericsson, a handset manufacturer is currently teaming up with Acxiom a data marketing company to help product a new customer relationship management strategy. With this new strategy to be implemented Sony Ericsson hopes to gain a competitive advantage of loyalty against smartphone rival brands such as Blackberry & Apple.
Within the new strategy Sony Ericsson wants to have all of their consumers happy and aware of the possible things they can do in order to get the most out of their handsets. When customers are fully aware of everything they can do with the product this will lead to a great level of satisfaction. The company vice president of Global Marketing, Ben Padley made the point he wanted to adjust their attention on what to do to keep their current customers, rather on the pursuit to market to new customers. Similar to what McDonalds did this idea has show internal and external improvement within companies. Data clearly shows that amongst the electronic division, Sony has the most loyal customers. I have seen in today’s market that this is quite true. Due to the large variety of product Sony offers they have built a great foundation with their customers on loyalty. Sony sells many audio, computer, video games, and other electronics. I believe the steps the phone division of Sony will lead to success based on their current stance in the market. Sony Ericsson is greatly aware of the societal changes being brought up the generations of this age and the revolutionary age of the word “mobile”. Everybody is on the go these days, this company has admitted to the lack of direct relationships they have with its customers. Sony wants to be more engaged offering support to their customers through text on their phones and answer questions at ease of the start up of the phones.
Though it is not all clear what all Sony Ericsson plans to incorporate within their plans to boost CRM, the step this Sony Company is taking in the right direction is very imperative to the future success of the company with new sets of phones handsets to be rolling out this year. Customers control the life of your business and it is important you make a relationship with them. The more loyal customers are the bigger customer they are to you, which means the greater the profits!
